Announcing A Major Victory For Apartment Renters In The City of Greenville!
As part of its "Housing As Human Rights Campaign" the Mississippi Workers' Center for Human Rights partnered with Councilman Errick D. Simmons, of Ward 6, to address longstanding housing violations, and inhumane living conditions experienced by renters across the city of Greenville to insure landlord accountability. On Tuesday, August 7, 2012 local residents achieved a major victory with the passage of the Ordinance described below. The measure will have a positive impact on the city's 17,000+ apartment renters. Provided below is a brief description of the Ordinance and it's key provisions.
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 3, BUILDINGS
ARTICLE VII, HOUSING CODE, SEC. 3
OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF GREENVILLE, MISSISSIPPI
ESTABLISHING OBLIGATIONS OF LANDLORDS, MANAGERS, AND OWNERS
OF MULTI-FAMILY RENTAL PROPERTIES TO MAINTAIN CLEAN, SAFE,
HABITABLE DWELLINGS FREE FROM HAZARDOUS DEFECTS
AND MALFUNCTIONING SYSTEMS
